The National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination (NCMHCE) measures the skills necessary to safely practice as an entry-level counselor.

What is the NBCC?

The NCMHCE is developed by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) as part of its certification program.

How do I qualify for the NCMHCE?

To qualify for the NCMHCE, you must have graduated from or be an advanced graduate student in a counseling program accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).

How do I register for the NCMHCE?

To register for the NCMHCE, you must first apply through the Center for Credentialing & Education (CCE). After your application is accepted, you will receive an exam eligibility email with instructions on how to register for the exam.

On the NCMHCE, no points are deducted for incorrect answers, so you should always guess even if you don’t know the answer to a question.

What’s a good score on the NCMHCE?
